Díaz-Canel noted that Castro always had cordial relations with Soviet and Russian leaders, admired Russian cosmonauts Valentina Tereshkova and Yuri Gagarin, the civil courage of the Soviet people during World War II, and appreciated Russia's role in world politics.
He called the Castro statue a tribute to the friendship between the two countries.
