12 Injured, 3 Workers Killed At Chemical Factory Plant Blast, Roof Of The Facility Was Ripped Off

(Representative) At least three workers were killed and 12 others injured in an explosion at a chemical plant in Tarapur MIDC in Boisar town of  Palghar in Maharashtra. district on Wednesday, officials said. The incident happened at 4:20 p.m. at the unit that manufactures gamma acid used in the textile industry, they said.

The intensity of the blast was so strong that the roof of the facility was ripped off,  officials said. A A total of 18 employees were working at the factory when the blast occurred, said Pradeep Kasbe, chief inspector of Boisar Police Station.

In the preliminary investigation, the plant manager confirmed that the explosion was due to  pressure in the reactor vessel, he said. “The plant produces gamma acid, which is used in the textile industry. The reactor vessel exploded while the process of mixing sodium sulfate with ammonia was underway,” he said.
