Rahul Gandhi understood voters were upset with Congress and decided to establish the Bharat Jodo Yatra, new party leader Mallikarjun Kharge said on Wednesday, praising Gandhi for helping the party reach out to the people.
This is a great achievement for our party and a great gift for us, especially for me," Kharge said at a meeting at his formal inauguration as the new leader of Congress. He said that thousands of people connect with the Congress through the yatra and called on party members to unite to bring the message of the Bharat Jodo Yatra to every nook and cranny of the country. “The Congress Party has been a part of people's lives for 137 years. Despite our good work and the sacrifices made by our leaders, voters are a little angry with us.”
"I express my gratitude to Rahul Gandhi ji who has understood this and having put aside all the issues set out in the Bharat Jodo Yatra. 'He meets people and interacts directly with them and listens to their sorrows and pains and encounters on their way, whether they are NGOs, intellectuals, journalists, farmers, workers and children, he meets everyone on the street and during breaks," he said. He said that Rahul Gandhi walks from Kanyakumari to Kashmir and people connect to Congress. “New energy is being generated in the country and we will not let this energy go to waste. As President of Congress, it is my duty to ask for your help,” Kharge said.
"Today, I would like to call on my congressional family to unite and take the message of Bharat Jodo Yatra to every nook and cranny of the country. The message of economic equality, upholding constitutional values, community harmony and more employment opportunities for India's youth," said the new congress chief.
Let us tell the people of India that Congress stands with them in their struggles and aspirations. Tell them we will be their voice and that we will work for an India foreseen by the ancestors who gave their blood, sweat for this great nation," he also said. Rahul Gandhi leads along with other party leaders the 3,570 km Bharat Jodo Yatra to promote community unity and harmony in the country.
