Russian President Vladimir Putin Praised India As Having Great Potential

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday hailed Indians as "talented" and "driven", adding that India has a lot of potential and he has no doubt it will achieve excellent results in terms of development, he said Reuters' translation of Putin's speech on Friday. On the occasion of Russian Unity Day on November 4, the Russian President praised India as having great potential. 

Folks: That's potential," he said, according to Putin's translated speech, originally delivered in Russian. "Look at India: a talented, highly motivated people with such a drive for internal development. (India) will certainly achieve excellent results .

India will achieve excellent results in terms of its development. No doubt. And almost a billion and a half people. That's the potential," Putin said. The Russian President spoke about colonialism in Africa, the potential of India and that Russia has a "unique civilization and culture.

President Putin said  during a speech on Russia and world history that the western empires stole from Africa. “The prosperity  achieved by the former colonial powers is largely based on theft from Africa. Everyone knows that. Yes, indeed, and research in Europe does not hide this.

You say it was largely based on the pain and suffering of the African peoples, I'm not saying entirely, no, but largely on the wealth of the colonial powers (that's how it was built). This is an obvious fact. Theft, slave trade, of course,” Putin said. Putin said Russia is a "multinational state" and a "multi-religious state" that has a "unique civilization and culture".

However, he also said that according to a Reuters translation, the country is an essential part of European culture and linked to the continent through religion. He said: "Russia is an essential part of that culture". (of  European powers) , based on Christianity," but added that "Russia was formed as a great unified world power...by also becoming a great power as a multinational  and multi-sectarian state.
