Six men suspected of being part of a human smuggling ring beyond the English Channel crossings have been arrested in France.
The group from Iraq, Afghanistan, Sudan and France are accused of storing boats that would have been used by migrants to travel across the English Channel to Britain, the National Crime Agency said.
Four boats and engines and 133 life jackets were seized from a locked garage in northern France in the arrests between October 18 and 20. , the group visited the garage 20 times between July 29 and October 20 and are said to have taken over the boats. They are due to be heard in French courts in February next year.
Deputy Director Andrea Wilson said: “These arrests and the significant seizure of boats and life jackets are the result of close collaboration between the NCA and our partners in France.
