The US Government On Wednesday Warned Of A Possible Weekend "Terrorist" Attack
The US government warned Wednesday of a possible "terrorist" attack during the weekend in the financial hub of South Africa's largest city Johannesburg.

The US government on Wednesday warned  of a possible weekend "terrorist" attack on the financial hub of South Africa's largest city, Johannesburg.

He identified the potential target as Sandton,  commonly known as the richest square mile on the African continent. Mainland: a cluster of high-end shops and high-rise office  and banking buildings. "The US government is in  Johannesburg," the US embassy said on its website. It said the attack could take place there on Saturday.

There was no immediate response from the South African authorities contacted by AFP. Several warnings of possible imminent terrorist attacks in South Africa have been issued  in recent years, but none have materialized.

The South African military is helping to combat an Islamist insurgency in neighboring Mozambique, where it has deployed more than 1,000 troops since July last year.

The embassy said it had no further information on "the timing, method or target of the possible attack," but advised its staff to "avoid crowds  and other large public gatherings in the Greater Sandton area at weekends." October 29-30, 2022. "We have nothing more to add than what is already on alert," David Feldmann, spokesman for the US Embassy in Pretoria, told AFP.

Johannesburg's annual gay pride extravaganza is scheduled for Saturday in the Sandton area, the first in-person event after a two-year hiatus caused by the Covid pandemic restrictions.
