Sam Whitelock will be New Zealand's assistant captain for the remainder of the team's Northern Hemisphere tour, All Blacks coach Jason Ryan said Monday after Sam Cane broke his cheekbone.
Cane retired from the team after suffering two minor facial fractures in Saturday's 38-31 win over Japan in Tokyo and was forced to return to New Zealand while the rest of the team traveled to Europe.
The All Blacks play Wales in Cardiff on Saturday, followed by Tests against Scotland at Murrayfield on November 13. and England at Twickenham on November 19th.
Sam Whitelock will be the All Blacks captain for this tour of the North and Ardie Savea and Beauden Barrett will be the vice-captains," Ryan was quoted as saying by the New Zealand Herald.
"Sam is very experienced and respected in the group. He's played over 100 friendlies and seen a lot, so he's the right man for the job." It was very easy and very well supported by the vice-captains. The All Blacks, led by Ian Foster, are three-time world champions.
